Hi!

I've approved your account request in transaltewiki.

Please see your user talk page there: https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:User_talk:Tumbuka_Arch/Welcome!

Thanks! :) Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 21:19, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello,
Thank you Amir! Tumbuka Arch (talk) 13:39, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello again!

Congratulations on having your languages usable as an interface language! :)

Another thing to improve the setup of your Wikipedia is to have a proper logo. If I understand correctly, "Wikipedia" is written the same way as in English. The words "The Free Encyclopedia" must be translated. Some notes:

  • "Free" must not be in the sense of "zero kwacha". It must be in the sense of "freedom". For more details, see this essay.
  • "Encyclopedia" must be translated in the sense of "encyclopedia", not "dictionary". (I'm mentioning it because people often make this mistake.)

I see that the main page says "Nkhokwe ya vinjelu yaulele". Can it be used? Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 07:55, 24 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]

Greetings Amir!
Honestly,i am overjoyed to see Tumbuka Wikipedia in Tumbuka language.Thanking you for giving me links and tips on how to translate it into Tumbuka.I sacrificed all the time i had to translate it since i was the only one who could do it.
For the Wikipedia Logo that reads "Wikipedia" in Tumbuka it reads "Wikipediya" and the motto "The Free Encyclopedia" translates "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru Yaulele".
Yes "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru Yaulele" can be used.
And once again! Thank you so much Amir!
I had a little question:
If i finish translating other translations including error messages, among other things, will they appear live in Tumbuka Wikipedia after few days? Since there are still more words and sentences to be translated and if i am not mistaken, there are probably 45,200+ words to be translated. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 11:53, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Yes, everything that you translate in translatewiki.net before Monday, is usually automatically copied to Wikipedia on Thursday evening.
The number 45,200 looks too big :) . I am not sure where did you take this number. If you count all the strings in MediaWiki and extensions used on Wikimedia sites, then it's about 24,000 strings. However, a lot of them are very technical and are necessary only for a few people. I recommend translating everything that appears on your translatewiki.net user page—these are the really important things. And invite your friends to help you! If you bring a few friends who can write Tumbuka, each of you can work on a different item from that list. Then it will be much faster :)
I also recommend reading this blog post and watching this video. They will give you some useful tricks to become better and more efficient. Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 14:18, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
... Actually, I need to check: Is it "Nkhokwe ya vinjeru yaulele" or "Nkhokwe ya vinjelu yaulele"? That is, with the letter L or the letter R? The main page says "vinjelu", but you've written "vinjeru". Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 14:24, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
It is "Nkhokwe Ya Vinjelu Yaulele". the capital letters at the beginning of each word corresponds to the way the original "The Free Encyclopedia" words are written into.
Yes i meant 24,000.
I will translate them and i will invite friends too to help me. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 18:00, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
You don't really have to write them all in capital letters as in English. English style requires capital letters on every word of a title, but most languages actually don't require. You are supposed to write capital in the way that is correct in the grammar and style of your language. For example: in French, only the first letter is capital (L'encyclopedie libre).
With that in mind, do you still want to write "Nkhokwe Ya Vinjelu Yaulele", or something different? Amir E. Aharoni (pakuchezgela) 06:50, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Hello Amir,
I didn't see this question as it was hidden inside other paragraphs.
"Nkhokwe Ya Vinjelu Yaulele" is correct in Tumbuka with first letters capitalized. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 02:48, 5 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
And thank you for the site and a video.
This was helpful. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 18:10, 26 Juni 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]

Hi!, I don't speak Tumbuka but I have tried to create a template for countries which you can see here. I understand that you speak the language so I would like to ask you whether you could revise it and once it is ok I will start adding it to the countries. --Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:42, 1 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]

I don't speak Tumbuka, but if you are willing to translate texts, we can build up this wiki. I helped creating from scratch the wiki in Jamaican as well with another person and I don't speak the language at all. Also, what does "Bakupenta" mean? And "Jiyoglafe? Could you please translate this?

Hello Caro!
Wow its totally amazing to hear that you helped to build a wiki without knowing much of its language.
"Bakupenta" also spelled as "Ẇakupenta" means artists/painters such as the historical Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci,to mention a few.On the other hand, the term "Jiyoglafe" means "Geography".

And yes i would love us to build this wiki including with whoever wants to join us ,and can you please do a favour by creating a template of "todays featured articles/in the news" to be used on main page?
If there are more translations then just paste them here as much as you can ,and i will be translating them when i come online. :)
Thanks. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 23:45, 1 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
  • I have added a template. You will need to write the news here and they will appear on the main page.
  • One question, how do you say "todays featured articles/in the news" in Chitumbuka?
  • Also, how do you write "Malawi" in Chitumbuka? Malawi or Malaŵi?
  • I have created a template about Malawi Could you please translate it whenever you have time? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 08:56, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
    Simply amazing Caro!
Thank you for the templates and whatever best you are doing to help our wiki,Caro.
How do we say "todays featured articles/in the news, etc.," in Chitumbuka?
Here is how we say it:
(and if possible can you create the templates for these terms below each)
Todays featured articles = Nkhani zithu za mwahuno
In the news = Mu nkhani
Today's featured picture = Chithuzi cha mwahuno
Did you know... = Kasi mukumanya...
On this day = Pa siku la mwahuno
"Malawi" in ChiTumbuka it is written, "Malaŵi" .
About translating the Malaŵi template, sure and thanks.
Finally, thank you Caro for being helpful on this wiki. You are amazing! Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 12:14, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
On translations on top, without knowing i skipped:
Artistic movements = Mayendelo gha ŵamaluso
i have added it now :) Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 12:20, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Sorry but I have a question, given the titles you have translated to Chitumbuka, do you want me to create a new main page? Is there any Main Page from other Wikipedias you would like to copy here? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 12:33, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Yes recreate it.
The Twi main page looks smart and easy for a new editor/readers to see where to start..
Here is the main page in another wikipedia that needs to look similar: https://tw.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kratafa_Titiriw Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 12:53, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Could you please translate this?
If the templates are ready you should provide the links so that i validate the articles(contents) in them. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 13:52, 2 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
Yes.Here you go:

Its not just looking clean and great, but an attraction to the new readers/editors too.
Now,
Should i translate these terms on top here on talk page or should i just go to the template and edit/translate from there? Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 09:05, 3 Julayi 2022 (UTC)[zgolo]
