The problem isn't only that the article is too large; it's just inappropriate for Wikipedia. Try Wikibooks or Wikiversity. — Arthur Rubin(talk) 03:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Arthur, I don't understand why you think this list is inappropriate. Given that this list is only a few hours old, I think you're a bit fast on the trigger. I've used this list for over 20 years. Thanks for your comments, Buaidh talkcontribs 04:02, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
In your very good options available - have you ever considered the boxes:
this person is a former resident of... ??
this person is interested in x as a former resident... ??
Just curious. JarrahTree 04:04, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
you are far too generous sir! yup, to your query, I do think not too much, but just enough parsing makes it a worthy set of items!
I happen to be a former resident of Tasmania with interest - to qualify the curiousity JarrahTree 04:36, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
excellent - thank you for your response - I can think of 'former.. as being possibly quite a range... JarrahTree 04:40, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
one small problem is the usage of the word native in the Australian context, the word - although grammatically within range - might, be better, if it was possibly re-assigned by a synonym - (I am thinking of the way I.F.Stone used to examine the terminology of the dept of defence public relations exercise of re-assigning words during the Vietnam War) JarrahTree 04:45, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on List of positive integers and factors/bottom requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. I've retracted this nomination after realising it was just created in the wrong namespace, and moved it to the template namespace where it should be. Moving forward, please be careful not to create non-article pages in the main article namespace. — Smjg (talk) 09:45, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
I've reinstated nomination under WP:CSD#G6; it's a template, and all pointers (except this one, and one on my talk page) have been shifted. — Arthur Rubin(talk) 10:32, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
There was absolutely no need to move these two documentation transclusions to the Template namespace, where they make little sense. If you're going to move things about, at least fix them. I've fixed both of these. Stick with things you know. Buaidh talkcontribs 15:36, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

I wondered what your intention is in regard to these many user categories you created like Category:West Virginia user categories. Right now, they are empty and I've not tagged them for deletion for the past two days because they are newly created. But I hope you start assigning pages to them and using them or they will be tagged and sit for 7 days. If they are still empty after 7 days, they will be deleted. They can't sit empty indefinitely. LizRead!Talk! 05:16, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

By the way, what is with User:Buaidh/Join this regional residence category where you basically state that you live in 30 or 40 different countries. Are you trying to make some point by putting yourself in all of these categories? Why on earth are you doing this? LizRead!Talk! 05:23, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm asking potential candidates to join the regional residence category so I don't need to delete the category. Does that work for you? Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 16:22, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
The number of categories your user pages are filed under is ridiculous and over-the-top. But, as far as I know, it doesn't break any rules. So, let's let it be. I'd ask you to trim it down to just those categories you are actually involved in, but I think your the type of editor who does what they want to do regardless. Thanks for populating the user categories. My only goal is to keep those categories that are being utilized and weeding out those that aren't useful and being used. LizRead!Talk! 01:58, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
The invocation of {{yy|Template:User Commonwealth realm|Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha|||7}} is broken. I think it was working before. You have edited the relevant templates most recently, so I figured that you might know why it is broken.
{{Template:User Commonwealth realm|Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha|||7}} appears to work fine, so I'm guessing that {{yy}} may be the problem. It appears that when multiple empty fields are present, the yy template renders them, and the table interprets the adjacent pipes as a new cell. The old version of the template (now in the sandbox) simply dropped the empty parameters, which is not valid behavior either. There may be a way to thread the needle. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:51, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. Template:Yy currently has a problem with null parameters. Until I can fix Template:Yy, a work around is to pass Yy a space. If you find more of these broken Yy userboxes, please let me know, although you don't need to look for them. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 18:49, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
This may be the complete list (some may point to the same transcluded source):
Please, Buaidh, do not move categories. It is not like moving an article to a different title. There are pages that are assigned to each category and moving the category to a different name will not reassign all of these pages.
On Wikipedia, categories are moved by going to Speedy renames and proposing the new category name, If there are no objections, a bot moves the category AND reassigns all of the pages to the new category name. It is efficient and how categories are moved right now on Wikipedia.

Hi Buaidh please fix Category:North_Macedonian_Wikipedians. Wikipedians in North Macedonia, regardless of their ethnicity, do not identify as "North Macedonian", and even by the Prespa agreement which changed the name of the country, they never agreed to be referred to as such. The nationality remains Macedonian. The adjective remains Macedonian. This is a sensitive issue, currently debated in a RfC, I guess there will be this type of problems for many categories, but this particular one can piss off a lot of Wikipedians. I don't think that anybody would like to find out he is a "proud North Macedonian" on his user page. Cheers. --FlavrSavr (talk) 11:46, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
The user pages in Category:North Macedonian Wikipedians have been moved to Category:Macedonian Wikipedians. The empty category still exists for now if anyone prefers to use it.

Hi. I've noticed that you've been making a significant number of edits to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Pennsylvania/Participants page over the last several weeks. I'm an active member of this wikiproject, but don't recall seeing any discussion about making changes to this page before these revisions began. So, I was wondering if this was a special initiative of Wikipedia (or a special project by a group of admins on Wikipedia), or if this is a project you've undertaken on your own? I look forward to learning more. Thank you in advance for your response. Kind Regards. 47thPennVols (talk) 22:39, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your quick response and thorough explanation. Now, that I know what you're working on, your edits are making more sense to me. (I'm impressed that you've taken on this ambitious project.) Good to know about the connection of you and your wife to Valley Forge and the Great Keystone State. I grew up not far from Valley Forge, and have fond memories of attending a concert at the military academy (many, many years ago). I'm currently on a quest to clean up articles which fall within the Pennsylvania WikiProject. (Among other things, I'm trying to add infoboxes where appropriate, and am beefing up stub articles with content and new citations when I come across article subjects that interest me.) It's a fairly Herculean task; so, if you happen to see a Pennsylvania-related article or two (or twelve) that could use some tender, loving care, and have the time, please feel free to upgrade. There are a number of potentially interesting stubs and start-class articles that could use the mind of an experienced researcher-writer. Best wishes for success with your project. 47thPennVols (talk) 00:18, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
I tried looking for information about orange roses in Wikipedia but I didn't find any. What's the history of orange roses? Is there a symbolic meaning of orange roses? What meanings do orange roses have? Do they have an esoteric symbolism and if so, what is it? Cheers! Thinker78 (talk) 20:58, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
There is nothing particularly special about orange roses. Modern Roses 12: the comprehensive list of roses in cultivation or of historical or botanical importance lists 18 color classes: white, light yellow, medium yellow, deep yellow, yellow blend, apricot, orange, orange-pink, orange-red, light pink, medium pink, deep pink, pink blend, medium red, dark red, red blend, mauve, and russet. The American Rose Society has a brief explanation of Rose Classifications. Red roses and white roses have significance in English heraldry and other colors have importance in other cultures. We have about 80 roses and our elder son has about 40,000. If Donald Trump was to create a coat-of-arms, if might have an orange rose. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 21:57, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Category:Ukrainian Wikipedians, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before saving a change. Thank you. --BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 05:47, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi there. I saw you at Template:User visited, and was wondering if you could help me with something. I'm wondering how to add certain regions that do not seem to functioning properly with this template. So for example {{Template:User visited|Lombardy}} produces Template:User visited, however,
{{Template:User visited|Piedmont}} Template:User visited does not produce this user box, as you can see, it produces the word "error". Would you know how to go about fixing these issues for the rest of the Italian regions? Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 18:41, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) I have created the Piedmont user box for you, so it now appears in your example above. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:57, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
There are a great many piedmonts around the world. Buaidh talkcontribs 20:24, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: Hey, thanks a lot! I created the rest. Can you fix the flag at Template:User in Aosta Valley? Is there also a way to get it to use the demonym for entries like "...user is of Sicily ancestry" to "...user is of Sicilian ancestry" at Template:User in Sicily? Thanks again. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 21:19, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Yes, there are piedmonts, but there is only one subject at Piedmont. I fixed Sicily like this by guessing that {{User in France}} would already be configured correctly. I fixed Aosta like this, by reading the Template:Uir documentation and finding the flag at Aosta Valley. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:30, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Will you please remove all of these categories from your user page? Unless you live in Greenland, Category:Wikipedians in Greenland does not apply to you and I have no idea what you are trying to accomplish by keeping these categories alive through false and inaccurate information about where you live. You are disrupting Wikipedia to make a point. I'd rather not escalate this but I will if you persist with this misinformation. It is really nonsensical. Thanks for your comments. For several years this has been the accepted way to keep vacant user categories open for future use. They are most commonly used for less populated nations and regions where we would like to recruit editors. Otherwise, we (usually I) need to recreate these user categories over and over again. They do not appear on my user page but on four special pages which explain their use. The user category is removed from the page as soon as an editor links to the user category. This problem has been discussed for about ten years, and this was the best solution we could come up with. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 01:18, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Hoosier Portal. Since you had some involvement with the Hoosier Portal redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you wish to do so. –MJL‐Talk‐☖ 17:45, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
I like your userboxes in the English language section, and I think H. L. Mencken deserves a mention. I did this one in your style. But this is my first userbox and I don't know how to change it into a template. Can you change it into a template or make an original, of your creation, for Mencken? Thanks. —Partytemple (talk) 07:57, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
I added my suggested format below yours. You may wish to move the template to Template:User Mencken. It can then be used by anyone as {{User Mencken}}. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 18:50, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
On June 25, 2019, Portal:Colorado was nominated for deletion. (Please see discussion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Colorado.) We have upgraded the portal and added several new features including selected Colorado articles, biographies, and images. If you believe the Colorado portal is valuable to Wikipedia, please help us upgrade and maintain the portal. Add your suggestions for improvement to Portal talk:Colorado. You may nominate additions at:
@BrownHairedGirl: Portal paragraph links to articles do not require the article references. The references are contained in the article itself. I have removed all references because they do not belong in a portal where there is no place for a reflist. Wikipedia:Verifiability has no mention of portals. {{unsourced}} belongs in articles and not a portal. This appears to be simple harassment. Do you think that if you drive me crazy, I just go away. I am very patient, but this tries my soul. I'm sorry I slowed your portal deletion effort. Just delete other portals. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 19:08, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Buaidh, the pages concerned are not links. They are paragraphs of text.
Please show me which part of the policy WP:V supports your claim that portals are exempt from WP:V. --BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 19:20, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Please show me which part of the policy Wikipedia:Verifiability addresses portals. This is really getting out of hand. Please stop. Buaidh talkcontribs 19:34, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
@Buaidh: I agree with you Buaidh WP:V says nothing about portals, so references aren't required on portals, only in articles.Catfurball (talk) 20:05, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Yes, sorry, I should have left you a more personal message. I assumed it was a misplaced edit that you didn't need, but shouldn't have relied on the templated message. Best, QuiteUnusual (talk) 17:06, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Eh, what's the point though? Variety for variety's sake? Doesn't make it a good idea. PC78 (talk) 20:43, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
True enough. Most WikiProjects have at least two templates. If WikiProject Korea decides they only want one, thats fine. It just not up to one user. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 20:47, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi.
How are you?
I am wondering how this template would be changed to include "insular areas" of the U.S., like P.R. and the Virgin Islands. Thank you. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 20:39, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
I agree with your statements about Geographical portals on Wikipedia talk:Miscellany for deletion about new editors. It is also an issue of covering those portals. If there is an active portal, lots of other information is there about the geographical entity for editors to use. Inactive or defunct portals are much less useful, and having no portal at all means no information at all, and no easy way to find other editors interested in that place. I am definitely a Wikipedia:WikiGnome, doing most of the tasks on that page, and more besides. I am a mere Master Editor IV compared with you, but I am an Octogenarian taking ideas from your user page.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 17:29, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
Good for you hanging in there with us. I appreciate your support. The folks wishing to delete most portals are well intended, but I think misguided. I'm very glad to have you to look up to. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 00:52, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
Average daily pageviews of portal on en.wikipedia in April–June 2019 @Dthomsen8, the place to contact other editors is at Wikiprojects or on article talk pages, or at community noticeboards. You won't find editors at portals, because almost nobody edits portals and almost nobody reads them. As you can see from the graph on the right, 94% of portals get less than 100 pageviews per day, and in nearly all cases the head article gets 100 times more views.
Portals are a tool to showcase and/or navigate content, and an abandoned portal doesn't fulfil that role; it simply wastes everyone's time. -BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 04:52, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello B, I wanted to make sure you were aware of the broadly participated discussion from earlier this year, Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 157#Hiatus on mass creation of Portals. I believe there has been no subsequent contrary discussion; without such, your recent creation of seven portals would seem to be contrary to the strong consensus established as a result of that discussion. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:10, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
Regardless of whatever redirects target them, their creation was contrary to consensus, and so I intend to bring all 7 to MfD. UnitedStatesian (talk) 03:14, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
The "redirect target" defence is self-serving nonsense. The redirects were all created or retargeted today by Buaidh, and the redirects are all un-needed, because links to portals are generated by templates which use #ifexist to avoid displaying a redlink. --BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 04:42, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Let 'er rip. The fewer portals there are, the less work for me. I've never liked portals. I'm not sure how a became a portal defender. I'm about ready to be rid of them all. I have better things to do. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 03:29, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Your own speedy deletion nomination, using criterion G7, of the portals (and portal redirects) you created would save a lot of other editors a lot of work, if that is something you put any value on at all. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:41, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
In the interest of peace in our time, I've issued {{Db-author}} requests for the following 24 regional portals that I created:
Many thanks for making that bunch of sppedy deletion requests. It saves a LOT of time and effort by other editors. --BrownHairedGirl(talk) • (contribs) 05:37, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes, that's awesome, thanks, but it would be really great if you could do the same for all the other portal redirects you created for other geographies (every Mexican state, all the countries, Indian states and U.S. states that have had their portals deleted, all of the emirates in the United Arab Emirates, etc., etc.,) These redirects are of absolutely no value to the encyclopedia. UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:39, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I do wish to help, but I'm not inclined to delete redirects to relevant portals that still exist. You can request the deletion of these portal redirects if you wish. It seems reasonable to me that a deleted state portal should be redirected to the relevant national portal. These redirects don't require any maintenance. Yours aye, Buaidh talkcontribs 05:46, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I agree with UnitedStatesian that these redirects are of no value.
I'd go further, and say that they are of significantly negative value, because they cause #ifexist tests to return a positive answer. That means that a forest of categories, navboxes etc end up with links which appear to be to a specific portal, but actually redirect to a much more general portal which may say little or nothing about the specific topic.

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Colorado. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. If, in the future, you decide to notify editors about a deletion discussion, please review the guidelines at WP:CANVAS before doing so. ‑Scottywong| gab _ 06:55, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:
Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
Diversity winner
Gender-gap fillers
For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

This hit my watchlist and after checking things out I went ahead and deleted it. Buaidh, I presume you intended this category to be for Wikipedians from Prince Edward Island, as opposed to Wikipedians in Prince Edward Island? I considered just renaming the category to Category:Wikipedians from Prince Edward Island, but since it would still be empty, I deleted it instead. If you find a use for recreating it, I have no objection. There are at least a few active editors who are from the Island, but none have the category on their page as far as I can tell. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

Recently I made a map of Colorado and I think it is worth to check for errors or provide comments. I thought that a message on the WikiProject page may be a good idea but I see that users are not very active there. Do you know what will be the most appropriate place to ask users with knowledge on Colorado geography to check? If you have yourself any remarks on the map I will be glad to hear. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Hi, would you object to speedy deletion of Template:User in Afro-Eurasia and related templates under WP:G7, as the categories that they populate are all being deleted? – FayenaticLondon 21:42, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
