Usage

Where

• {{{text}}} is the reconstructed text (positional {{{1}}})
• {{{written}}} is optional; the written Chinese characters for the word(s) (positional {{{3}}})
• {{{modern}}} is optional; the modern Mandarin pronunciation of the word(s) (positional {{{3}}})
• {{{show_lang}}} optionally suppresses the link to Old Chinese.
• {{{suppress_reconstruction_link}}} optionally suppresses the link to Reconstruction of Old Chinese.

Template to mark phonetically reconstructed strings in the Old Chinese language, for example: {{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ}} → *‍kʰˤoŋʔ.

Additionally, we can do:

• {{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ.
• {{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔|kǒng}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ, mod. kǒng.

You can suppress the link to Reconstruction of Old Chinese in the asterisk with:

• {{Old Chinese|kʰˤoŋʔ|孔|kǒng}} → 孔, OC:*‍kʰˤoŋʔ, mod. kǒng

As can be seen from the example above, this template does not cause its content to be set in italics, so text should be italicized around this template, per .

This template forces whitespace not to wrap. To use this template for more than a few words, set |wrap=normal to allow word-wrapping.
