Kufuma Wikipedia

@Caro de Segeda There is only one website that truly and perfectly translates Tumbuka to English 100% that I don't even see any single error as a native, except in other areas that I will explain below.

This website is this and not this (the one that you know). For some reasons unknown, the website is not seen much in Google when looking for Tumbuka translation sites. Instead, only the dictionary site pops up. The site is similar to Wikipedia, it is edited by its community. I am one of the contributor to Tumbuka language there.

The mistakes about translations errors are below:

Malaŵi = Malawi (incorrect)-+

Ŵanthu = not Wanthu

Bola (soccer/football) = not mpira (which is Chichewa).

I am recommending you today to use this in creating any articles on Tumbuka Wikipedia (except creating articles about Malawi which need manual correction because the translator adds Chichewa language and I am afraid you wont know which ones are in Chichewa).

HOW BIG IS ITS DATABASE?

The translator is great but just need few entries edited/added and I am the only one adding translations there since 2012 and have contributed hundreds of thousands of short sentences and single words translations. Recently, I requested a WMF staff about enabling content translation tool on tumwiki and this is what they said. So soon we are having Content Translation tool here anytime soon.

WHAT ARTICLES CAN I CREATE WITH THIS?

Any, except for Malawi which are sensitive to natives, or you can fill the ones about Malawi that are already created, I will have to manually come and correct some errors because these already on my watchlist and I will easily track them since I will be receiving notfications that you edited there.

HOW CORRECT IS THE TUMBUKA TO ENGLISH OR VICE VERSA TRANSLATIONS ABOUT THIS SITE?

I should say it is great and far best than Google translator. On a scale of 1-100, I give it 98% best, and on scale of 1-10, I give it 9.

WHEN DID YOU TUMBUKA ARCH STARTED USING THIS TO CREATE ARTICLES ON TUMWIKI?

Since 13 days ago. I am sure you have recently noticed long paragraph articles created. I use this tool but then I correct where I see errors.

DOES IT MEAN ALL TRANSLATIONS HAVE ERRORS IN TUMBUKA?

No, not really. Other translations are okay. But since they are machine, they are not always perfect.

IF I CREATE ARTICLES WITH THIS TOOL, WHAT LEVEL DOES IT PUT ME IN UNDERSTANDING TUMBUKA?

Creating articles with this tool is similar to someone with level 4 in understanding Tumbuka. This is similar to someone who has their babel labelled like this (babel: tum-4)

YOUR TO DO:

0. Translate your LFN article completely. (I use the same tool but with corrections where possible). If you suspect a word error, please ask.

  1. Add all info about Malawi districts and cities. (You can do this slowly).

2. Add entries about countries from enwiki. It is recommended to translate the page entirely without leaving anything to avoid coming back to it later. Also the other user wont know where you stopped translating. So it is recommended to finish every page started. Foreign pages though are not recomended to be very exhaustingly long.

IMPORTANT:

Watch this video I made [please] before starting anything.

Avoid summaries like: used content translation to write this, translated enwiki page, etc. Such summaries don't give courage to natives when reading your article. It is weird :)

Don't reply to this message unless you have a question about it. In such case, don't hesitate to ask. Tumbuka Arch 08:13, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]

Wow! Thank you so much for this. Is there any template I can put that says "This article needs to be revised". I will create articles with that tool and then add the template so that you can come back whenever you have time to check it because, as you said, no translation is perfect and we want quality as well. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 08:26, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda I will create the template.
Also note, not all translations need a fix. Some dont even need any fix at all apart from replacing w with ŵ in ŵanthu.
However, this shouldnt be used to translate templates, simply because it produces long sentences which dont fit in infoboxes.
In mean time, translate your article LFN, I am going to restore it.
Reason for temporary delete was that it was too long and was mostly in Engllish. This could have been a drawback with stewards on Meta about the request I posted.
Also, please add info in countries. You can do this slowly when you have time. Tumbuka Arch 08:54, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
The templte already exists Template:Revision Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 08:58, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
You can find those articles here Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 08:59, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda Great!
Can we expand districts of Malawi first before we have many articles. Tumbuka Arch 09:16, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
But you told me not to do articles about Malawi because hte translator uses Chichewa... You said "I am recommending you today to use this in creating any articles on Tumbuka Wikipedia (except creating articles about Malawi which need manual correction because the translator adds Chichewa language and I am afraid you wont know which ones are in Chichewa)." Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:19, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Don't get me wrong I don't have any issue in creating them, but you said first not to create them and then to create them, what do you prefer me to do? To create them or shall you do so? Let me know. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:20, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda Yes, with exceptions on districts and cities about Malawi.
Also please dont forget references. They give quality and courage when reading.
I strongly suggest expanding articles that we already have created before adding alot more.
It is what I advised CubanoBoi. Mostly they expand stubs that we already have. Tumbuka Arch 09:24, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda The articles you just created are just amazing with very less errors as I have seen so far. But I suggest expanding what we alredy have created. You can expand any now. Even those of Malawi, districts of Zambia, etc. Tumbuka Arch 09:27, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Cakukondweska. Tiyeni tisinthe Wikipedia iyi! Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:29, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
One thing, the translator translates "Cigaŵa" instead of "Chigaŵa". How do you pronounce CI/CE in Tumbuka? Like CH in chamber in English? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:35, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda Yewo chomene.
Nane nakondwela chomene kuti mukutivwila pa Wikipedia iyi.
Chonde pitilizgani kutivwira pano. Tumbuka Arch 09:36, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda It is not "Cigaŵa" but "Chigaŵa"
Both are correct though the other one is ancient writing system stopped in 1919. Tumbuka Arch 09:38, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda ChiTumbuka is pronounced as this:
Chi= as in English we pronounce "She"
Tu= as in "to"
mbu= as in English "tomb"
ka= as in English "car" Tumbuka Arch 09:43, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
I underestand that Ŵa means something like "people" so I am adding it before each name when creating this part of each district. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:47, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Yes, perfect! Thanks alot.
Also you can translate from ES-TUM, TUM-ES, flawlessly. Tumbuka Arch 09:55, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Para mwawona nkhani izo nkhulemba, kasi mungamazga "Revision" iyo yili pakwamba pa peji? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 10:30, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda If you skip some references and cites, or remove them, the article will not look well and it will look like a messed up machine translation. The article will have [1] , [2] etc, for no reasona and someonee will guess it was machine, especially Google translator which is fond of that. For example see what you skipped here.
These articles you are creating nobody will think they are machine trans. The little errors are not really errors but just mix of use of Old Tumbuka. Natives can easily correct that. They will be like, "Haha here the author used old Tumbuka, lemme replace with the Standard Tumbuka one". Tumbuka Arch 10:33, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Oh I am sorry. Those weren't actually references but links to websites, that is why I didn't realise they were missing. I have changed them now. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 10:37, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda Replying to revision.
Enya, ningauskapo "revision". Tumbuka Arch 10:37, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda Yes, its what I did in that video, to preserve reference and citing, I copy the whole enwiki page in source mode and paste it in source mode on tumwiki then switch to Visual editor and I start translating paragraphs. Where I see cite like this [1], I dont remove [1], I just copy words paste in translation and replacve with translated ones. Tumbuka Arch 10:41, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Is Europe called "Ulaya" in Tumbuka? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 10:41, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
Yes it is. Tumbuka Arch 11:01, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda When adding new info on districts, please remove everything that was there and paste new and better one. Also description matters alot than numbers and demographics. So add description as well, infact, paste the entire enwiki page there that they should not be a difference. Tumbuka Arch 11:05, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
In Boma la Zomba, Health and Ecology are both translated as "Umoyo", so you will have to check that. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 11:38, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda It may be an error inside.
I will edit it when I login on the site. Tumbuka Arch 11:47, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
@Caro de Segeda I have fixed the Ecology. Use small letter at the beginning. There is conflict somewhere. Will fix later. Tumbuka Arch 12:25, 20 Malichi 2023 (UTC)[zgola]
